Stop Your Smoke Detector Beeping Now!

If you are experiencing smoke detector beeping, there are a few steps you can take to eliminate the noise and keep yourself protected. Your smoke detector beeping can be fixed by doing four simple checks. If after these four steps your detector has not calmed, you may need to replace the unit.

Some smoke detector beeping can be fixed by just cleaning your alarm unit. Wipe off all the dust and grim, and may even consider taking the hose from your vacuum cleaner to it. You can take off the front of the unit but try to leave the half secured to the wall or ceiling intact.

Another cause to the annoying beeping could be that the unit is simply dirty. Take the unit down and clear all the dust and grim that has built up over time. Taking the hose to your unit may also help get rid of the smoke detector beeping. Do not remove the back panel of the unit if you can avoid it, this is the part that is secured to the wall or ceiling.

If these two methods have not worked, simply try resetting the unit. If your smoke detector beeping is coming from a unit ran from batteries, pull the battery or batteries out, wait a few seconds, then put them back in the unit. If the unit is hooked up through an outlet try resetting your circuit breaker completely. Note however, that this will reset everything in your home plugged into the wall.

If you have tried all of these options and your beeping is still continuing you may need to replace the unit all together. Smoke alarms can be extremely affordable and can be purchased anywhere. If you live in a complex or living center your beeping could be cause by electrical surges in your service.
